GROOMING
A bouvier's coat is dense and should be brushed and combed to the skin at least once a week. Trimming should be done approximately every six weeks. With such a thick coat, it is a good idea to be in the habit of running your hands through the coat next to the body, so you will be able to find any wounds or skin problems. Needless to say, this is most pleasant for the dog. Be especially aware of problem areas for matting such as the beard, armpits, facefall, chest, and neck.
Do not bathe the dog too often. Bathing removes oils from the coat and skin and results in scaly, dry skin and a coat that lacks luster. Bathe only when there is obvious odor or dirt. Never attempt to bathe until the coat is thoroughly combed through or the bath will set the mats.
